The Script Editor and the five script formats
The Script Editor is where WideCast hands your script back to you before anything else gets built. Read it, rewrite anything that does not sound like you, try one of five ready-made angles on the same topic, then tell WideCast how to turn it into a finished video.
Opening the Script Editor
You land here automatically the moment your script is ready. In the workflow that runs after you describe an idea, the Video Script step shows Tap to edit once the AI is done writing; tapping it opens the Script Editor. You can also get back into it later: on the home screen, click a video that is still marked Ready to Record to bring its script back up.
Reading and editing your script
A small counter above the script tracks it as you go. It starts at 0 words • 0 seconds and updates live while you type, showing your current word count and the estimated time the script takes to read aloud. Watch it if you need a specific length: free-plan videos are capped at 60 seconds.
To rewrite anything, click directly into the script text and edit it like any normal text box: fix a line, delete a sentence, or retype the whole thing.
The five script formats
Every script WideCast writes actually exists in five versions, called angles. Scroll down and you will find an accordion listing all five:
- Value Explainer: explains the value of what you offer, plainly and directly.
- Client Q&A: answers a client's question head-on.
- POV: tells the story from a first-person point of view.
- Case Study: walks through a specific example or result.
- Myth-Buster: corrects a common misconception in your industry.
One of the five always carries a Recommended badge: that is WideCast's official script for this video, the version shown in the editor and the one used if you move on to Full recording or Scene by scene. The other four sit under More angles below it.
Open any of the other four and click Generate this angle to have WideCast write that version (about 2 minutes). You can only generate one angle at a time, so the other buttons wait until it finishes. Once an angle is ready, click Open to make it your new official script; if a generation attempt fails, the button changes to Retry so you can try again.
You can switch between generated angles as many times as you like, but only until scenes exist for this video. Once scenes have been generated, angle switching locks so the video stays matched to the script that built it.
Choosing how the video gets made
When your script is ready, use the two buttons at the bottom of the Script Editor:
- Full recording: keeps the script as your talking points and hands you the camera to record the whole video yourself.
- Scene by scene: WideCast builds the video for you automatically, sourcing B-roll footage to match the script (2 credits).
Either way, you are then asked to choose Faceless (no one on camera) or On camera (you or your avatar appears). Full recording opens straight into the camera and teleprompter, covered in Record yourself with the teleprompter; for a full comparison of the two paths, see Create your first video.
For Scene by scene videos, WideCast narrates with a default AI voice to start. Once the scenes exist, open any of them to swap in your own recorded voice or a cloned version of your voice instead. Setting up voice cloning is covered in Avatar and voice.
Common questions
How do I open the Script Editor?
It opens automatically once your script is written: in the workflow, the "Video Script" step shows "Tap to edit" when the AI is done, and tapping it takes you straight into the Script Editor. You can also reopen it later from the home screen by clicking a video that is still marked "Ready to Record".
How do I know how long my script will run?
A counter at the top of the Script Editor tracks this for you. It starts at "0 words • 0 seconds" and updates live as you type, showing your current word count and the estimated time the script takes to read aloud. Free-plan videos are capped at 60 seconds, so watch the counter if you need to stay under that.
Can I rewrite the script myself in the Script Editor?
Yes. Click directly into the script text and edit it like any text box: fix a line, delete a sentence, or rewrite the whole thing. It is editable as soon as the Script Editor opens, with nothing to switch on first.
What are the five script formats in the Script Editor?
WideCast writes every script five different ways: "Value Explainer" (explains the value of what you offer), "Client Q&A" (answers a client's question directly), "POV" (a first-person point of view), "Case Study" (walks through a specific example or result), and "Myth-Buster" (corrects a common misconception). All five appear in the accordion below the script text.
What does the "Recommended" badge mean in the Script Editor?
It marks WideCast's official script for this video: the version shown in the editor and the one used if you continue to "Full recording" or "Scene by scene". The other four formats sit under "More angles" and do not affect your video unless you switch to one of them.
How do I get a different angle for my script?
Open "More angles" below your current script, pick one of the other four formats, and click "Generate this angle". WideCast writes that version in about two minutes, and you can only generate one angle at a time. Once it is ready, click "Open" to make it your new official script.
Can I switch back to my original script angle later?
Yes, as long as scenes have not been generated yet for this video. Every angle you generate stays saved under its own format in "More angles", so you can reopen any of them and switch back at any time before you continue to "Full recording" or "Scene by scene".
Why is angle switching locked on my script?
Once WideCast has generated scenes for a video, the script that produced those scenes gets locked in so the video and script stay matched. The Script Editor shows a note naming the angle the scenes were built from when this happens.
Does trying a different script angle cost credits?
No. Generating an alternate angle just takes a couple of minutes and does not use credits. Credits are spent later, when you turn the script into an actual video: "Scene by scene" uses 2 credits.
How do I change the voice for my video?
It depends on how you built the video. Choose "Full recording" and it is your own voice throughout. Choose "Scene by scene" and WideCast narrates with a default AI voice at first; open any scene afterward to swap in your own recorded voice or a cloned version of your voice. See Avatar and voice for how voice cloning works.
What happens after I finish editing my script?
Use the two buttons at the bottom of the Script Editor: "Full recording" to record the whole video yourself, or "Scene by scene" to have WideCast build it for you automatically. Either way, you then choose "Faceless" or "On camera" before the video gets created.
